Holiday Eating Tips for Weight Loss Success

The holidays are upon us and I have been doing a lot of thinking. Sure I think about holistic health and fitness all the time, but what I’ve been thinking about the most is how people always condemn themselves and their weight loss journey during this time of year.
I’m sure you can relate, but most people that I talk with stress about the holiday season. It may be partially due to seeing the family or financial obligations. But, when you are trying to lose weight it is about the food.

The food terrifies us!

It can definitely be a struggle. Over the past 6 years, I would like to think that I have learned a thing or two.

1. Do not be afraid of your food. After all, food is your friend and is what keeps your body functioning at its optimal ability. Without food we truly would not live too long.

2. Relax a bit. You know what your body needs better than anyone.

3. Remind yourself that you have been doing very well and no matter what you eat, you know how to counteract all the calories you consume.

4. Always eat before you go to a party with food. Even though you may want to starve yourself before going to the party because you can save your calories up; you will actually end up over eating because you are sooooooo darned hungry.

5. Take something with you. If you are completely terrified that you will not be able to eat anything there; take a healthier dish. Take a dish that is full of vegetables or offer to make your favorite dish and make a healthier version of it.

6. Enjoy the food. It is okay to enjoy the food in moderation. You know how much you should be eating so just stick to one plate (maybe two) of the food. Be realistic about your choices and choose the best options.

7. Always remember that you are in charge of your health. Nobody can make the decisions for you. By using a bit of common sense along with all the knowledge you have about eating a healthy diet, you will be able to make some good choices.

All-in-all it is about knowing what your plans are. If you plan to eat a lot of junk at the party, are you really treating yourself well? Treat yourself with respect and plan to always treat yourself with respect no matter what food you are around.

Take some time this holiday season to really enjoy some of the extras that are around such as family, games, football, and parades.  There are a lot of ways to deter your food cravings.

Just because someone else is eating the whole pie doesn’t mean that you have to.
