How to Gain More Time in Your Day


April is Stress Awareness Month.  Lack of time is one of the leading causes of stress.

Why is this?

  • When you are short on time your work suffers and you are always feeling the pressure.
  • When you are short on time your health suffers because you will put it on the back burner as a “later” project so that you can complete something else.
  • When you are short on time your family suffers because you have so much built up stress that it only has one place to go…out.  Most of the time it will present itself as anger and frustration toward those you love, even though they are not the source of your anger.

It is time to lower those stress levels by re-gaining more time in your day.

How to Gain More Time in Your Day

 

Do you wish you had more time in your day?  As a SWAHP (stay/work at home parent) this can be a common occurrence and happen more often than we would like to admit.  When this happens, more often than not, our health and personal agendas go on the back burner and sit.  Some day we may get to them, but who knows when.lack of time

The good news is that you can fix this by creating more time in your day.  I know that you cannot technically create time, but you can certainly create a schedule where you feel you have more time.

You need to become completely clear about what you want to accomplish.   How much weight you want to lose, how many vegetables you want to add to your diet, or how long you want to spend doing your favorite activity?  When you become completely clear on your goals, your actions will be more precise granting you more time.

There are three simple steps you need to follow to relieve yourself from the NIGHTMARE of lost time.

 

  1. Write out how you plan to achieve your goal

Take a few minutes each morning to write down your goal and three actions you plan to take that day to reach your goal.  Your actions can be simple or complex depending on your goal.  You can simply drink an extra glass of water or purchase a new piece of exercise equipment.  Include when or what time you are going to complete these actions.

  1. Determine your resources

Decide what you are going to need to complete your actions and put them in place.  Are you going to need a certain amount of money?  Are you going to need a friend to call as a reminder to drink your water?

  1. Take action

Decide what time you are going to complete your action steps and do them.

Striving for a huge goal is overwhelming and stressing over whether or not you will reach it causes you to lose time.  By setting yourself up for success with three small actions each day you will achieve your goal.  You will also find that over time, you will feel you have more time in your day for the things you love like family and friends.
